Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the University of Kasdi Merbah hosted an international workshop on quinoa in Algeria in the visual lecture hall of the university directorate, organized by the Desert Resources Protection Research Laboratory at the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences for the benefit of researchers, professors, students, producers, farmers and those interested in quinoa cultivation, with the participation of professors and experts from national and foreign universities. It witnessed a distinguished and significant presence of professors and students of the college. - The international workshop witnessed the activation of a group of interventions that focused on the cultivation of quinoa in Algeria and in the world. During this scientific event, its physical and chemical quality and areas of its food uses, including other products used in cosmetics, were analyzed and evaluated. The effectiveness of its use as an alternative feed was discussed, and the event addressed the impact of water deficit on production yield. - At the end of the first day, a summary of the research work at the University of Kasdi Merbah and the universities participating in the international workshop was presented, and suggestions and recommendations were presented to address the difficulties facing quinoa cultivation in Algeria, most notably the climatic conditions. - The activities of the international workshop will conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and the delegation will conduct field visits to sites that have quinoa cultivation in the municipalities of Tamassin and Al-Maqarin.
