About the University
The origins of Kasdi Merbah University of Ouargla date back to the Higher School for Teachers (E.N.S.), established in 1988. In 1997, the University Center of Ouargla was created, which included under its supervision the National Institute of Higher Agricultural Training in Saharan Agriculture, along with five founding institutes: the Institute of Saharan Agriculture, the Institute of Exact Sciences, the Institute of Law and Political Science, the Institute of Letters and Languages, and the Institute of Economic and Social Sciences.
Kasdi Merbah University of Ouargla currently consists of ten faculties in addition to two institutes. The university presidency is located on Ghardaïa Road, and its infrastructure is organized into three main university campuses.
Since September 5, 2005, the university has officially been named “Kasdi Merbah University of Ouargla.”
The university currently employs approximately 1,378 staff members, including both contract and permanent employees. It is also known for the quality and competence of its faculty, estimated at around 1,357 professors, who teach in various disciplines to approximately 27,474 students.
The university has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 quality certification.
In recognition of its commitment to quality and innovation, the University of Ouargla obtained the ISO 9001:2015 certification in 2025 for implementing its quality management system.
