The University of Kasdi-Merbah Ouargla, in cooperation with the Directorate of Posts and Telecommunications of the State of Ouargla and the National Gendarmerie of the State of Ouargla, organized today, May 8, 2024, at the level of the lecture hall of Pole -01- at the level of the Central Library., the second awareness-raising day on the subject.



The program included several lectures led by Dr. Guti Ziani and Dr. Rawaqat Abdel Wahab from the University of Ouargla, the representative of the Post and Telecommunications of Ouargla, and the representatives of the National Gendarmerie.

Today, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the University of Kasdi-Merbah Ouargla witnessed the organization of an important national workshop on “Energy Transition: Hydrogen and Water Desalination”, as part of the national efforts aimed at promoting the use of renewable energies and the transition towards a green economy, in line with the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid. Tebboune and the recommendations of the Prime Minister on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of fuel nationalization.
The workshop witnessed the presence of the Rector of the University, Professor Mohamed Taher Hulailat, his deputies and the deans of the colleges, in addition to the Rector of the University of Ghardaia, the Dean of the Faculty of Technology at the University of M’sila, the Deputy Director of the Higher School of Renewable Energies in Batna, the Chairman of the Irrigation Committee of the State People’s Assembly, executive directors and professors from the nation’s universities, and executives and professors. The workshop included a series of lectures and interactive sessions with the participation of prominent experts and academics from all over the country, highlighting the challenges of desalination in dry areas, as well as the opportunities offered by green hydrogen as a renewable and clean energy source.
The workshop addressed important topics such as sustainable water management. Participants discussed ways to manage water resources sustainably, especially in light of the increasing climate challenges.
Participants were also encouraged to exchange ideas and experiences to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation in the fields of water desalination and green hydrogen in Algeria.
Ouargla University students from the Hydrogen Department, the Road Engineering Department, and the two majors’ clubs organized a technical exhibition on the sidelines of the workshop, in which they presented modern models and technologies for hydrogen production and water desalination.



The Technical Ground Center for Physical and Chemical Analysis in Ouargla (CRAPC) also participated, through a display of field water analysis devices.
The participants praised the workshop and considered it a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and information about hydrogen and water desalination technologies, and discuss ways to benefit from these technologies in various economic sectors.

1. Context
Under the High Patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the National Workshop on Energy Transition: Hydrogen and Water Desalination is an essential initiative to promote efforts on a national scale in Algeria in the field of energy transition. With a focus on hydrogen as an energy carrier and water desalination as a response to water challenges, this event brings together experts, decision-makers and industrial stakeholders to discuss progress made and specific best practices in the Algerian context. The objective is to promote innovation and collaboration between the public and private sectors in order to strengthen Algeria's position in the energy transition and sustainable management of water resources. This workshop aims to highlight national initiatives, identify development opportunities and catalyze action for a safer and more resilient energy and water future in Algeria. In this context, Kasdi Merbah Ouargla University plays a leading role by providing two new professional training courses focused on water desalination and green hydrogen.
2. Objectives
Raise awareness among national and key stakeholders of the issues, potential, challenges and opportunities of the energy transition in the field of water desalination, with particular emphasis on green hydrogen and arid and rural areas.
Promote university-sector exchanges (public, private and academic) by identifying opportunities for the development of concrete projects in Algeria (training and research projects according to the establishment project).
Exhibition of the constraints encountered during the operation of water desalination techniques and Identification of new technologies in the green hydrogen logistics chain (Production, storage, transport and valorization).

Within the framework of the initiative of the national awareness campaign against the dangers related to the use of social media, and to inform and guide members of higher education and scientific research institutions regarding this matter, especially with regard to the aspects of privacy, security and cyber risks, and with the aim of introducing the consequences of incorrect use and the extent of its negative impact and providing guidance on Conscious use of them and clarifying the danger of false sources and inaccurate information.
