Visit of Mr. Zhao Bingcheng, First Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria, to Kasdi Merbah University of Ouargla.

As part of strengthening Algerian-Chinese cooperation in scientific and cultural fields, Kasdi Merbah University of Ouargla welcomed on Monday evening, May 11, 2026, Mr. Zhao Bingcheng, First Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria, accompanied by the Cultural Attaché and the accompanying delegation. The visit took place in the presence of the University Rector, Distinguished Professor Mohamed Tahar Hliouet, the Vice Rectors in charge of External Relations and Pedagogy, the Secretary General of the University, the Head of the Artificial Intelligence House, as well as several deans and university officials.

The delegation then visited the University Innovation Center, where the Chinese Corner was officially inaugurated as a cultural and scientific space dedicated to students. The center aims to introduce students to Chinese culture and language, facilitating their access to Chinese universities and enhancing opportunities for training and scientific exchange with higher education institutions in China. It also seeks to enable students to undertake internships within Chinese oil companies operating in the region, thereby creating new opportunities for training, supervision, and knowledge transfer, particularly in technical and scientific specializations linked to local and national development needs.

During the visit, the Chinese delegation emphasized the importance of this space in strengthening cultural and intellectual bridges between the two countries and praised the dynamic international openness demonstrated by Ouargla University. Mr. Zhao Bingcheng also expressed the Chinese side’s willingness to support the Chinese Corner by arranging visits of professors and specialists to supervise students and lead educational and cultural programs. In addition, cooperation with Chinese partners will focus on financing and equipping the space with the necessary resources to ensure its future development and sustainability.

The “Chinese Corner” is expected to represent a significant added value for Ouargla University as a permanent platform for cultural and scientific exchange, a supportive environment for developing students’ linguistic and intellectual skills, and a means to deepen cooperation between the university and its Chinese counterparts across various fields.
